There are few things that make you feel more confident when you look in the mirror than radiant skin. If your skin has suffered over the cooler months or you’re prone to skin problems, this guide is for you.

Here are some simple steps you can take to achieve a healthy glow all year round

Hydration

Hydration is the cornerstone of bright, smooth, healthy skin. There are two main contributors to consider.

First, hydrating from within by ensuring you take plenty of fluids on board. Second, adding skincare products and remedies to nourish and hydrate your skin.

The simplest way to prevent dehydration is to make sure you drink plenty of water, especially when it’s hot or you’ve been working out or sweating.

To boost hydration, it’s beneficial to use targeted products, such as moisturising creams, lotions, serums, and oils.

When you shop for skincare products, focus on your skin type and the concerns or areas you want to address. If you have dry skin, for example, indulgent natural oils like amla oil are ideal for revitalising and nourishing your skin.

If your skin is dull, brightening serums and masks are great. Vitamin C is an excellent choice for reinvigorating the skin and giving it more luminosity.

Use SPF

Protecting your skin from the sun is a surefire way to boost skin health, slow the ageing process, and reduce the risk of sun damage.

Most of us apply sun cream when we’re on holiday or it’s hot outside, but it’s beneficial to use SPF every day.

Even if it’s grey and cloudy, your skin will benefit from UV protection. If you don’t want to use sunscreen daily, you can buy makeup and skincare products that contain SPF.

Exfoliate regularly

Exfoliating involves removing dead skin cells. This process is beneficial not only for getting rid of dead cells but also for promoting skin cell renewal.

Depending on your skin type, it’s advisable to exfoliate 1-3 times per week. You can buy exfoliating cleansers, scrubs and lotions, or apply your usual products using an exfoliating mitt.

Eat well for radiant skin

Your diet has a direct impact on your skin. There are many foods that enhance skin health and appearance.

Examples of skin superfoods to add to your diet include walnuts, oily fish, berries, avocados, peppers, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and leafy greens.

Never skip cleansing

It can be tempting to crawl into bed without washing your face if you’ve been out or you’re exhausted, but cleansing is crucial for beautiful, bright skin.

Cleansing removes dirt, debris and impurities from the skin surface. Not only does this make your skin look fresher, but it also paves the way for better skin health.

Choose a cleanser that suits your skin type and be methodical. It’s particularly important to cleanse twice a day if you wear makeup or live in an area where air pollution is high.

Many of us long for brighter, smoother, more youthful skin. It’s not always easy to boost skin health and appearance, but simple steps can make a big difference.

Key tips to take on board include staying hydrated, using skincare products that suit your skin type, eating well, cleansing and exfoliating regularly and using SPF daily.
