Let’s be real: most of us have, at one point or another, stolen a partner’s razor in a moment of desperation.
Blame the overpriced pastel-pink alternatives, the half-baked “for her” options that seem designed to punish you for having hair at all, or the weird social shame that says you’re supposed to be as smooth as a dolphin.
Philips seems to have noticed. The brand’s new OneBlade Intimate - just landed in Australia - is basically an acknowledgement that, yes, women also have body hair in all the places, and they might want to groom it without blood sacrifice.
It’s a unisex electric shaver made specifically for intimate grooming. As in, no more pretending you’re buying your boyfriend’s razor “just because.”
Philips actually did some homework first. A survey of 1,000 Australian women revealed that more than half (53%) regularly buy men’s razors, with nearly half (46%) straight-up admitting to borrowing a man’s.
Among 18–34-year-olds, the stats are even starker: 59% pick men’s razors for better value, sharper blades and a closer shave.
Apparently, there’s also a healthy dose of social pressure here - half of young women say they feel pushed to groom their bits a certain way. So, a unisex device that doesn’t treat you like a fragile flower? About time.
Kay Cho from Philips put it diplomatically: “The data signals a shift: Nearly half of women (49%) say they feel very comfortable buying a unisex razor, perhaps unsurprisingly, significantly higher than 35% who feel the same about purchasing a men’s razor.
"Yet confidence and satisfaction remain low, with just 30% of women feeling confident and only 27% satisfied when buying a shaver.
"OneBlade Intimate is designed to change that, redefining confidence and convenience with a product that’s inclusive, intuitive, and tailored to real needs.”
In practice, it’s a waterproof, compact, rechargeable device with Philips’ dual-sided blade and new SkinProtect guard.
Translation: it’s designed to reduce nicks and irritation in, let’s say, delicate regions. It can also just trim if you don’t want the full baby-smooth experience.
The brand claims the stainless-steel blade lasts four times longer than disposable heads, needing replacement about every four months (though let’s be honest, your mileage may vary depending on how often you’re landscaping the garden).
Is it revolutionary? Look, it’s a shaver - it’s not going to solve world peace. But it’s at least an honest nod to reality: people of all genders have body hair in intimate places, and nobody wants to hack themselves to bits trying to deal with it.
The OneBlade Intimate is rolling out at Chemist Warehouse in July for $69.95, with wider availability from October. And yes, for now it’s in the men’s aisle — because apparently even progress can’t fix everything at once.
If you’re tired of pretending men’s razors are “just better,” this might be the most straightforward solution to an uncomfortably familiar problem.
