YOUR LIPS DRY OUT FASTER THAN YOUR FACE: THE AUSSIE LIP CARE FIX USING POSTBIOTICS

When it comes to lip care, most of us stop at a quick swipe of balm, but the science suggests your lips deserve a lot more attention.

Research listed on the US National Library of Medicine's PubMed database found that lips lose water almost three times faster than the skin on your face.

They also have a thinner protective barrier and fewer oil glands than the rest of your skin, which helps explain why they dry out so quickly.

Now Australian-made brand Balmydays is bringing a skincare approach to your lips, with a three-step range designed to smooth, restore and protect.

Why Lip Care Needs A Rethink

Just like the skin on your face, your lips have their own microbiome, a delicate ecosystem of microorganisms that helps keep the barrier healthy and balanced.

Yet most lip care has focused on temporary hydration rather than on lip biology.

Balmydays says its range is designed to work in harmony with the lip microbiome instead.

The Science Behind The Balm

The brand uses fermentation to turn Australian native botanicals, including kakadu plum, into stable, bioactive postbiotic compounds.

These are paired with skincare-grade peptides, hyaluronic acid and plant squalane.

The range is vegan-friendly and also draws on nourishing plant oils and butters such as jojoba, mango seed, murumuru and cocoa.

Step One: Smooth

The Lip Sno. Lip Exfoliant, RRP $25, uses fine sugar crystals to gently lift dry, flaky skin.

Mango seed butter, nourishing oils and vitamin E help soften and condition at the same time.

It comes in two delicious-sounding varieties: Berry Pavlova and Vanilla Bean.

Step Two: Restore

Next is the Kiss Me Lip Serum, RRP $36, a lightweight treatment that absorbs quickly.

It delivers a double peptide complex alongside hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil and plant squalane.

The brand says it supports the natural structure and resilience of your lips while giving lasting hydration without feeling heavy.

Step Three: Protect

The final step is the Hydra Glo. Lip Love Balm, RRP $36, which combines fermented kakadu plum with hyaluronic acid, plant squalane and aloe vera.

As well as long-lasting hydration, it adds a sheer wash of colour while supporting the lip barrier and microbiome.

Choose from Cosmopolitan, a soft berry, Praline, a warm nude, or Mirror Mirror Vanilla, a sheer gloss.
