NO STATUS NEEDED: SYDNEY'S FIRST PAY-AS-YOU-GO DOMESTIC AIRPORT LOUNGE FROM $54

Good news for anyone who has ever stared longingly at the airport lounge doors while perched on a hard seat at the gate.
Sydney Airport is getting its first pay-per-use domestic lounge, and anyone can book in, whatever airline they fly or ticket they hold.
The new Plaza Premium Lounge will open in Terminal 2 in early December, with entry from $54, Travel Weekly reports.
That means it should be ready just in time for the Christmas holiday rush.
Who Can Use The New Airport Lounge?
Until now, the lounges in Sydney's domestic terminals have been run by airlines, so getting in usually meant having frequent flyer status, a pricier ticket or a membership.
This one is different, because it is open to all passengers, regardless of airline, status, ticket class or credit card.
Terminal 2 handles around 17 million passengers a year and serves Virgin Australia and Jetstar, along with regional airlines Rex, FlyPelican and Link Airways.
For Jetstar and Virgin travellers without status, it offers a lounge option that simply did not exist before.
Mark Zaouk from Sydney Airport said the lounge gives travellers "greater flexibility and convenience".
What Do You Get For Your Money?
The lounge sits airside, which means you go through security first.
It will have 113 seats across a split-level space of about 545 square metres, with views over the tarmac.
Facilities include quiet workspaces, fast wi-fi and charging points, which is handy if you are juggling devices for the whole family.
There will be barista coffee, hot and cold food and drinks with a local flavour, and a full-service bar.
According to Executive Traveller, it will be open from 5.30am to 8pm every day.
How To Book
Entry starts from $54, and you can book online ahead of time or simply walk in, subject to availability.
Multi-entry options will also be available, which could suit people who fly regularly for work.
Some American Express Platinum cardholders may be able to get in free through their complimentary Priority Pass membership, so check your card benefits before you pay.
You can find out more on the Plaza Premium Lounge website.
Is A Paid Airport Lounge Worth It?
Whether a lounge pass is worth the money depends on how you travel.
If you have a long wait, an early start or a delayed flight, a comfy seat, a proper meal and a quiet corner can make the day far less stressful.
Compare the entry price with what you would usually spend on coffee, food and drinks at the terminal, as it may work out closer than you think.
For families, it can be a calmer place to regroup before boarding, although it is worth checking the lounge's rules for children before you book.
During busy holiday periods, booking ahead is the safest bet, as walk-in entry depends on space.
Tips For A Smoother Trip Through Sydney Airport
Check which terminal your flight leaves from before you set off, because this lounge is in Terminal 2 only.
Allow extra time over the Christmas and New Year peak, when security queues can build quickly.
Pack a refillable water bottle and charge your devices at home, so you are not caught short if your flight is delayed.
If you book a lounge pass, keep the confirmation handy on your phone for a quick check-in.
More Lounges On The Way
The Sydney lounge is part of a $20 million investment by Plaza Premium Group, which is marking ten years in Australia.
The company also plans to rebuild its Brisbane International lounge and open a new domestic lounge at Cairns Airport in early 2027.
Plaza Premium Group's Cyrus Wong said pre-boarding options "have traditionally been limited" for many travellers, according to Travel Monitor.
For anyone flying out of Sydney this summer, it is one more way to make the journey a little more relaxing.
