According to a survey from IKEA, 90% of people wake up tired after a night’s sleep, and getting quality sleep is even more difficult in hot weather!

During a heat wave or at the peak of summer, the high temperatures can make it challenging to fall and stay asleep, which can lead to daytime tiredness, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

Plus, poor sleep can affect many essential body functions, including energy production and cognitive performance.

Fortunately, with the right tips, you can take steps to improve your sleep quality, especially in summer. Let’s learn more below.

Choose Breathable Fabrics for Nightwear

High-quality pyjamas or nightwear, such as pure cotton nighties, are designed in breathable fabrics that allow you to feel comfortable and dry throughout the night.

Plus, high-quality materials like cotton, linen, silk, and bamboo are highly breathable and feel soft to the touch, which can add an extra layer of comfort to your nights.

While it can be tempting to sleep in an old t-shirt, investing in premium nightwear has many advantages, including better skin health and improved sleep quality—plus, these garments are created to last longer, making them a much more sustainable choice.

Keep Your Room Cool for Great Sleep

Keeping your room cool can be a fantastic way to improve your sleep quality. Some tools can help. For instance, if you could install an air conditioning unit, use black-out curtains, and add mosquito nets to be able to sleep with the window open.

If you only have a fan, there are some strategies that can help you cool down the room faster. These include:

  • Place a frozen water bottle in front of the fan for a chilled breeze.

  • Position the fan across from an open window to create cross-ventilation.

  • Run the fan on high before bedtime to quickly drop room temperature.

  • Use ceiling fans counterclockwise to push cooler air down.

  • Keep doors open to let air circulate throughout your home.

  • Place multiple fans around the room to increase air movement and cooling.

Create a Cooling Night time Routine

Next up, let’s talk about what you can do to cool down before going to bed. This can help you avoid laying down while still hot and sweaty, making it easier to fall asleep. Some strategies include:

  • Take a lukewarm or cool shower before bed.

  • Wipe your skin with a wet washcloth or cooling body wipe.

  • Apply a lightweight, gel-based moisturizer or aloe vera.

  • Wear loose, sleeveless nightwear made from breathable fabrics.

  • Sleep with your hair up to keep your neck cool.

  • Use a cooling pillow or chill your pillowcase in the fridge beforehand.

  • Sip cold water or herbal iced tea before bed.

  • Mist your face and body with a refreshing facial spray.

  • Dim the lights and avoid electronics to help your body wind down.

Use Light Sheets and Bedding

Last but not least, don’t forget that your bedding choices can have an impact, too! Be sure to opt for breathable fabrics and quality linen that will dry quickly, allowing you to keep dry and avoid sweating while asleep!

This is an investment that will surely pay off!
