Everyone loves a true-blue Aussie success story, but few stories stand out like McPhails Furniture, which used one simple idea to become a multi-million dollar business.
When lockdown hit, McPhalis was struggling despite their beautiful and full-of-character product range.
The family business, founded by the owners, Casey and Taylor McPhails dad in the 1960s, looked like it would have to close.
However, in a last-ditch attempt, Taylor, who has a double degree in Commerce and Law made a few tweaks that changed the game, bringing their business from $900,000 a year to $22 million a year and making the McPhails brand a household name in Victoria.
Taylor introduced a $59 flat rate for delivery at a time when everyone was doing home projects or buying property.
They also deliver within two weeks whereas a lot of the big furniture brands were taking 16+ weeks to deliver and they turned to social media,.
Within a few weeks their turnover went from $50K a week to $250K a week, from 1 Hino truck to 12, a team of 4 to 30 employees and from one shed to renting all 22 available sheds in town but they have since built a 8000 square metre warehouse..
McPhails is a Victorian based business that was founded by Keith McPhail, a fourth-generation farmer who wanted to make his own mark on the world.
McPhails stock some of the most beautiful furniture that has a rustic, country, Hampton's feel that adds some character to any space. They name their furniture after the towns that they believe the furniture style would suit.
