The viral colour analysis trend that’s dominated social media has officially made the leap from wardrobe to lounge room, with one of Australia’s leading interiors retailers helping homeowners decode their personal style using seasonal palettes.
Temple & Webster has launched a new interactive quiz designed to translate the popular fashion styling concept of Colour Analysis into the world of interior design.
The idea is simple: just as people are often categorised into ‘seasons’ — summer, winter, autumn or spring — based on their complexion and what colours suit them best, now your home can get the same treatment.
“The personal Colour Analysis trend for styling clothing has maintained popularity across the globe, and we saw it blow up across Australia too,” says Lucy Sutherland, Director of Insights & Trends at Temple & Webster.
“The method considers different hues in clothing and matches them to skin tone, providing shoppers with their own ‘season’, including an individual colour palette which acts as a framework to shop for clothing pieces that best suit them.”
But it turns out many of us still hesitate when applying that same instinct to our interiors.
“We used the desire for consumers to be more colour conscious, and have taken it to the interior design space,” Sutherland says.
“The quiz is designed to be a fun and creative way to give shoppers a head start in identifying colours and items that suit their unique personality traits.
"The results provide a personalised colour palette and 'season,' along with additional guidance on which finishes best complement their palette.”
Winter palettes, for instance, may suit bold, dramatic colour combinations — think marble surfaces, rich velvet textures, and deep merlot or chocolate tones.
Meanwhile, an autumn palette is more likely to lean toward natural textures, such as timber, and earthy shades, including terracotta, ochre, and soft blush.
The quiz is designed to appeal to all levels of design experience. Whether you’re an interior stylist looking for fresh inspiration or someone just starting to think about updating their rental with a few new touches, the tool offers a low-stakes entry point into identifying your preferences and working out what feels cohesive, rather than chaotic.
“At Temple & Webster, we also have a bespoke curation of products to suit the colour palette for each quiz result,” Sutherland adds. “We are looking forward to seeing all sorts of creative spaces that come from the quiz!”
The personalisation trend in interiors is continuing to gain traction, with more Australians seeking to create homes that reflect not only current design trends but also their own unique identities.
This quiz aligns perfectly with that shift, tapping into a broader appetite for self-discovery and individual style — whether that’s maximalist glamour or low-maintenance minimalism.
The quiz itself only takes a few minutes, but the results may help set the tone for years to come. As our homes increasingly double as workplaces, wellness retreats, and social hubs, understanding how colour impacts mood and function has become more relevant than ever.
For those tired of second-guessing their choices or doom-scrolling through Pinterest boards, this new tool might just offer a clearer path — one that starts with a few simple questions and ends with a home that finally feels like you.
