Skincare trends come and go, but Australian brand AyurScience is betting on something a little more permanent: 5,000 years of Ayurvedic wisdom.

While the rest of the beauty world chases the next big active, this pharmacist-founded label is proving that some of the most effective skincare science was written centuries ago — it just needed a modern translation.

Heritage Meets the Lab Bench

AyurScience was founded by brothers Rajesh and Mitesh Thakorlal, registered pharmacists who are also second-generation custodians of Ayurvedic practice.

Long before pharmaceutical science entered the picture, the pair grew up immersed in plant-based remedies and daily Dinacharya rituals, where balance, consistency and prevention were simply how skin was cared for.

That inherited knowledge is now the backbone of Ayur-Active™, AyurScience's proprietary ingredient complex pairing two of Ayurveda's most revered botanicals: Amla (Indian Gooseberry) and Tulsi (Holy Basil).

Through the AyurScience Research Institute, the brand's in-house hub for botanical research and formulation, that ancient plant knowledge gets put through the same rigour as any modern pharmaceutical ingredient.

The Science Behind the Ritual

Skincare buzzwords are cheap, but AyurScience is backing its Ayurvedic roots with hard numbers.

Amla, prized for centuries for its role in complexion and restoration, contains up to 20 times the vitamin C of oranges and has shown 41–47% inhibition of melanin production in lab-based skin models — serious brightening credentials for a botanical that predates the entire concept of "brightening serums."

Tulsi, meanwhile, is where the elasticity gains come in. Clinical research on a 3% Tulsi extract recorded a 14% improvement in skin tonicity and a 15% improvement in elasticity after just eight weeks.

Together, Amla and Tulsi form Ayur-Active™ — nourishment and restoration on one side, protection and resilience on the other, working in balance rather than competition.

Meet the PURITY Ritual

Ayur-Active™ sits at the centre of AyurScience's PURITY Skincare Ritual ($214.80), a four-step routine designed to reset, rebalance and restore skin without stripping it in the process.

PURITY Foaming Gel Cleanser ($39.95) opens the ritual, lifting oil and buildup while Ashwagandha, Boswellia and Ginger bring soothing, antioxidant support to the skin barrier.

PURITY Blemish Spot Treatment ($44.95) is the targeted step, pairing Ayur-Active™ with Bakuchiol and gentle glycolic and salicylic acids to decongest without disrupting the skin's natural balance.

PURITY Hydrating Lotion ($69.95) replenishes what cleansing takes out, combining squalane, niacinamide and glycerin with Manjistha and Turmeric for a lightweight, fast-absorbing dose of daily hydration.

PURITY Purifying Mask ($59.95) rounds things out two to three times a week, using kaolin and bentonite clays alongside Turmeric and Bakuchiol for a deeper reset that still feels more like a ritual than a treatment.

Why Balance Is Skincare's Next Big Idea

Where most skincare brands treat "heritage" as a marketing mood board, AyurScience treats it as the actual R&D.

Traditional Ayurvedic knowledge decides which botanicals make the cut; contemporary pharmacology decides how they're formulated, tested and dosed.

The result is skincare that doesn't ask you to choose between ancient ritual and clinical proof — it delivers both, one balanced step at a time.

For a beauty landscape saturated with 10-step routines and ingredient overload, AyurScience's pitch is refreshingly simple: skin balance isn't a new idea. It's inherited knowledge, backed by science, and bottled in green glass.
