Sales of men’s sex toys increased by 30 per cent

Australian men are rapidly changing how they access sexual content and experiences following new age-verification rules that have led major adult websites to restrict local access.

Sexual wellness retailer Wild Secrets says the shift has triggered a sharp rise in demand for male-focused intimacy products, highlighting how consumers are adjusting to a stricter digital environment.

New online safety regulations requiring age verification for adult content came into force in March.

In response, several of the world’s largest adult platforms, including Pornhub and other Aylo-owned sites, chose to block access for Australian users rather than introduce verification systems.

Retailers say the impact on consumer behaviour has been immediate.

According to Wild Secrets, sales of men’s sex toys increased by 30 per cent week-on-week, with Fleshlight-branded products rising by 63 per cent.

Adam & Eve-branded sex dolls also became the retailer’s top-selling men’s items during the same period.

seeking privacy and control

Wild Secrets Merchandise Manager Molly Berry said the surge reflects how quickly Australians are adapting to the new restrictions.

“When a major source of adult entertainment suddenly becomes harder to access, people look for alternatives that offer privacy and control,” Molly said.

“What we’re seeing is men turning to premium sexual wellness products as a way to explore pleasure without relying on streaming adult content.”

Retailers are also reporting increased interest in app-connected devices designed to create interactive experiences between partners.

“We’re seeing more couples explore connected devices as a way to create their own interactive experiences,” said Molly.

“The latest products have really polished apps that make them simple and fun to use together.”

Celebrity influence drives demand

One of the most unexpected trends has been a spike in sales of celebrity-inspired products.

A Fleshlight modelled on Sydney-born adult performer Angela White sold out within days, prompting the retailer to place urgent restock orders.

“The Angela White Fleshlight sold out almost immediately,” Molly said. “It’s a fascinating intersection of Australian pop culture and sexual wellness, and clearly there’s strong demand.”

A broader shift in sexual wellbeing

Industry observers say the trend reflects a wider change in how consumers view sexual wellness, with products for solo pleasure increasingly positioned as mainstream lifestyle purchases rather than novelty items.

The surge in sales mirrors broader digital behaviour patterns, including increased VPN downloads and spikes in online searches related to adult content since the new regulations took effect.

Wild Secrets believes the shift is likely to continue as Australians adjust to tighter online controls on adult material.

“People are resourceful,” Molly said. “But what this moment is showing is that sexual wellness products are becoming a mainstream alternative to passive adult content.”
