The designer shopping bag that had Australians queuing last year is back, and this time the Anya Hindmarch bag comes in a cute new size.

Coles has once again teamed up with British designer Anya Hindmarch on her reusable Universal Bag, and for the first time in Australia a Mini version is being sold alongside the original.

The Mini costs $15 and the original large size costs $20, with both available while stocks last, Yahoo Lifestyle reports.

What Does The New Anya Hindmarch Bag Look Like?

This year's Coles colourway is a deep blue with Coles-red straps.

Last year's Coles version was light brown with red handles, so collectors will be keen to add the new shade to their wardrobes.

Each supermarket that partners with the designer chooses its own colours, and Woolworths' version is green.

Coles senior manager Lidija Fargher said the retailer wanted to give customers "even more choice" by releasing both sizes together.

Shoppers have already been sharing their excitement online, with comments such as "It's so cute" popping up across social media.

A Designer Bag With An Eco Twist

Anya Hindmarch designed the Universal Bag in 2021 as a stylish answer to single-use plastic.

The outer fabric is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic, and the lining is 98 per cent recycled.

According to the designer, the bags have saved more than 546 tonnes of plastic from landfill, which she likens to the weight of 46 Sydney buses.

It is a clever way to make a sustainable habit feel a little bit special.

Why Everyone Wants One

Last year's bags were incredibly popular, and Coles said sales exceeded expectations.

Some bags were even resold online for up to $500, which left many shoppers frustrated.

Woolworths called reselling "clearly unacceptable" at the time, and a spokesperson said the supermarket does not encourage it.

Part of the appeal is that you are getting a genuine designer piece for the price of a takeaway lunch.

It is also practical, folding away neatly so it can live in your handbag or car for the weekly shop.

Tips For Snapping One Up

Stock is limited, so it is worth heading in early if you have your heart set on one.

Check with your local store, as availability can vary between locations.

If you are after a particular size, ask a staff member whether more stock is expected, as deliveries can arrive on different days.

Avoid paying inflated prices to resellers online, as the bags are designed to be affordable for everyone.

If you miss out in store, keep an eye on the Coles website and social media for updates.

A Thoughtful Christmas Gift Idea

With Christmas just around the corner, the Mini could make a sweet stocking filler or a thank-you gift for a teacher, neighbour or friend.

Pair it with a few small treats, a candle or a favourite snack, and you have a lovely gift for under $30.

The large size is a useful present for anyone trying to cut down on plastic, from university students to grandparents.

It is also a nice way to give something that will actually be used every week, rather than tucked away in a cupboard.

Fashion That Does Some Good

Reusable bags have come a long way from the flimsy green totes many of us still have stuffed in a drawer.

Collaborations like this show that eco-friendly choices can be stylish and fun too.

Whether you go for the Mini or the original, it is an easy, affordable way to treat yourself and do your bit for the planet.

Happy shopping.
